The Zermatt ski resort in Switzerland is one of the best resorts in the world for intermediate and advanced skiers, with a large ski area that extends into Cervinia in Italy, and scenery that can only be described as breathtaking. There are a number of excellent restaurants, bars, and ski chalets in Zermatt, both on and off the mountain, so you can be virtually guaranteed to have as good a time away from the slopes as you have on them. There aren't too many runs that are suitable for beginners, as this is really a resort that caters for more experienced skiers, but the resort does have an excellent ski school where you can hone your skills for the more challenging runs.
As you would expect from a Swiss resort, Zermatt ski chalets are some of the most luxurious that you will find anywhere in the world, with high levels of comfort and state of the art facilities. The town is completely free of traffic, apart from the electric taxis, which makes it one of the most peaceful resorts in the Alps, and there is also a healthy smattering of shops and entertainment venues in the town, so you will never be short of things to do when you are not out skiing.
