Resort Overview for Nassfeld:

Ski resort overview for NassfeldNassfeld ski resort is Austria's southernmost skiing location, sharing a border with Italy in the on-mountain village of Sonnenalpe Nassfeld. With 110km of pistes to choose from, Nassfeld is the largest ski resort in the region of Carinthia and reaches between 1300m to 2000m above sea level at its highest.

Nassfeld boasts some of the heaviest snowfall of all the European resorts, fed by precipitation from the Adriatic, which produces almost universal snow coverage throughout the resort. Should the snow be delayed however, every foot of Nassfeld's twenty nine pistes are equipped with artificial snow machines to guarantee optimum skiing conditions.

As well as being one of the snowiest resorts, Nassfeld is also one of the sunniest - in the winter months, the sun outshines more northern resorts by up to 15%, or 100 hours more daylight. Nestled against the backdrop of the Nock mountains, Nassfeld's chilly, sun-drenched slopes and rocky Trogkofel and Rosskofel peaks mark it as an idyllic Nordic retreat.

Although an ideal holiday location for couples and families, Nassfeld is also host to various snow sport World Cup activities. With such a wide range of activities to choose from, Nassfeld ski resort has earned its reputation as one of the top ski resorts in Europe.

The Skiing in Nassfeld:

Ski resort review for NassfeldThe Nassfeld site contains twenty nine pistes of varying difficulty, accommodating every skill level from complete beginners to professionals. The five beginners slopes are located at a sun drenched 1600m where both visibility and snow quality are ideal for newcomers. For intermediate skiers, Nassfeld offers a range of eighteen pistes, prided as being exceptionally well maintained.

The more advances slopes available reside under the Trogkofel peak at a breath-taking 2280m. Many of these slopes are rated black - for very able skiers only. Indeed, the Schnittlauchkofel run is regarded as one of the most exciting available and offers a black rated version for the truly daring skier. In total, the resort contains 6 advances slopes.

Nassfeld's pistes can be reached by a series of chair lifts, including the renowned four mile long Millennium Express, the world's longest gondola ski lift. Not content with one world record, Nassfeld also features the world`s longest floodlit run, which stretches 2.2km along the seven mile Carnia run, beginning at the first station of the Millennium Express.

In addition to the 110km of pistes available to skiers, Nassfeld offers a range of off-piste skiing for very advanced or professional skiers, amongst the rugged terrain of the Nock mountain range.

Après Ski in Nassfeld:

In addition to its skiing facilities, Nassfeld is ideal for aprés-skiers. The on site village is located at the foot of the Madritschen chair lift and is host to an array of bars and restaurants offering traditional Austrian cuisine and entertainment.

Of the fourteen locations available, Barenhutte, located near foot of the Millennium Express, is the centre of activity for those looking to take a break from the slopes. Once holidayers have finished dining, the nightclub here is open til late for revellers from the nearby venues. Chili's, The Alpin Bar and The Cube all boast exceptional entertainment, ranging from live musical performances to the Cube's very own disco.

Traditional bars are home to those seeking a more relaxed atmosphere, including the quaint Schloss Hotel Lerchenhof, located high above the town in sunlit parkland. A wide range of non-skiing related activities is also available for those looking for a change of scenery.

From sledging to tobogganing, there is something for everyone and plenty of places to unwind at the end of it all. Nassfeld characterises everything ideal to be found in a skiing getaway high among the Austrian mountains. With its brilliant sunshine and everlasting snowfall, Nassfeld ski resort is the perfect location for last minute holidays at any time of the year.
