Ski resort overview for SamoënsLess than an hour from Geneva, Samoëns is positioned in the heart of the Haut-Giffre valley. At a modest 720m, this small but beautiful resort has access to slopes of the Grand Massif ski area.

The town dates back to medieval times and is registered as a historical monument because of its impressive example of stone-cutting. The area has preserved is traditional architecture and has not lost its heritage to new, ugly buildings as can be seen in so many other European resorts. Regarded as one of the prettiest French ski resorts, Samoëns is full of charm and positioned around a stunning botanical gardens.

The area around Samoëns has an exceptionally rich heritage and the town and its 9 hamlets are active throughout the year. Visitors come here to both relax and for activity holidays.

Samoëns is well-suited to families and offer a range of skiing for all levels.

      

The Skiing in Samoëns:

Ski resort review for SamoënsFrom the village itself, you can be on the slopes in less than 10 minutes via the Grand Massif Express! From here you can enjoy all the runs of the Grand Massif ski area, linking Samoëns with Sixt Fer à Cheval, Les Carroz, Flaine and Morillon.

Whilst the slopes offer varying levels of difficulty to keep all skiers happy, it is weighted towards reds and blues for the beginners and intermediates.

At such a low altitude, the runs back to Samoëns can be a little rocky at times.

There are also numerous other activities available, such as dog-sledding, archery, ice-skating and waterfall ice-climbing!

Crèche facilities are also available.

Samoëns is a family resort with enough shops, cafes, bars and restaurants to keep everyone occupied in the evenings.

Traditionally a Savoyard market town, Samoëns offers some excellent food in its many restaurants.
